Maria Bocanegra has been with the firm since 2010. Her practice focuses on workers’ compensation, personal injury, wage & hour claims and touches on various issues including Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), unemployment insurance matters, third party liability, commercial coverage issues, immigration law and discrimination in the workplace. She has extensive experience in taking and defending depositions, litigating various pre-trial motions and in arbitration proceedings.
Maria earned her Bachelors of Art in Political Science with Honors from Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois in 2004. She received her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in 2010 and is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and in the Northern District of Illinois. She previously worked as a judicial assistant to the Hon. David M. Furman and as a case administrator for the United States Bankruptcy Court in the District of Colorado. While in law school, Maria was active in both Latino Law Students Association and Moot Court Society. She placed first and won best brief in the National Juvenile Law Moot Court Competition, the winning brief having been published in the Whittier Journal of Child & Family Advocacy. In addition, she was a semi-finalist in both Depaul Law’s intramural moot court competition and Pepperdine Law’s Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition.
Maria is a member of the WCLA, ISBA and CBA and is fluent in Spanish.
Maria was recently appointed to the Illinois Department of Labor’s/Labor Advisory Board.
